I think almost every expat I know–military, ministry, or otherwise–is struggling with burnout right now. So many people in my circles are contemplating a change of pace, whether that means a career shift, an extended visit home, or a relocation in the field.
I know there are a lot of you on my friend list, so just know it’s a thing–seems like it gets really bad around the 1-2 year range. You’re doing hard work, it gets lonely, and there are language and cultural barriers that make things more isolating. Finances can get really tight. Don’t feel guilty about taking time to recuperate and reevaluate.
“It is useless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night, anxiously working for food to eat; for God gives rest to his loved ones.” Psalm 127:2
He has the people you’re serving in His hands. Let yourself rest if it feels wise.
